SYL 1512A settings help

Postby lyned » Sat May 26, 2012 7:13 pm

Hello, new guy here, first time using a pid. I finally got around to building my boil controller. Using a 1512A pid with an SSR, 110 input and output to SSR. Everything is wired OK, getting power to the element. I'm want to run this without the temp sensor. I have to sensor attached to the PID and just coiled up in my control box. I want to run this strictly on manual mode. I can set it for on/off with no problem but it would take forever to come to a boil. How can I set the controller to full power to heat up and then cut back to 50%-70%? Or can I set the on/off for longer "on"? Hope this makes sense, thanks in advance.

The SYL-1512A does not have the manual mode. The output depends on the temperature that the sensor measures and the SV setting. You can try to set a higher SV. BTW, if you don't need the sensor, you can just set the input type to K type thermocouple and short the terminals 6 and 7 with a copper wire. The controller will just show the ambient temperature.

But the SYL-2362 has the manual mode. It "allows the user to control the output as a percentage of the total heater power. It is like a stove dial. The output is independent of the temperature sensor reading."

Ah, OK. Thanks colnny, I thought it had manual. Guess I'll get the proper one you showed.
