2nd gen 1200W Masterbuil electric smoker PID questions

Postby Retired RailRoader » Tue Mar 14, 2017 11:29 am

I have a 2nd generation 40" 1200W Masterbuilt smoker that I would like to connect to a Auber PID controller. I know that the PID needs to be connected as per Auber instructions as shown here (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B14y9I ... hGTzQ/view).

My two questions are:

When rewiring the Masterbuilt do I keep the Masterbuilt temperature limit cutoff switch in or do I eliminate that also?

I use my Masterbuilt for low temp smoking for making smoked sausage, snack sticks, jerky and bacon. I am not concerned with the Masterbuilt chip loader producing smoke as I use a AMNPS. The PID controllers I have been looking at for the Masterbuilt are:
WS-1510ELPM (multi purpose)
WS-1510DPMS (K type thermocouple)
WS-1211GP (single sensor)
WSD-1200GPH (dual probe).
Is one better then the other for the application that I mentioned in the top of the paragraph?
Thanks in advance for any help in the matter.

Since you already rewired your masterbuit smoker by the attached guide, you are connecting the heating element in your smoker directly to Auber controller. For that limit cutoff switch, you can turn it to the maximum level.

For the controller's selection, it depends on your needs. If you prefer dual-probe, you can use WSD-1200GPH. If you prefer single-probe, you can use WS-1211GPH (PT1000 RTD probe), WS-1510ELPM (PT100 RTD probe) or WS-1510DPMS (type K thermocouple). 1510ELPM and 1510DPMS have larger enclosure than 1211GPH, and they have better heat dissipation. They all work for 1200W smoker.
