Issue with SSR?

Issue with SSR?

Postby GregKelley » Tue May 08, 2012 12:03 am

I purchased the 40A SSR for my electric brewery. I am using it to switch on and off one of the hot leads. My two hot leads come into a DPST switch. On the output of the switch, one hot lead goes directly to a prong on the plug that heads to the heating element and the other hot lead goes to pin 1 on the SSR. Pin 2 of the SSR goes to another prong on the same plug heading out to the heating element. The SSR appears to work right. When I supply 7V DC to pins 3 and 4 the light turns on. But the issue is that whether the light on the SSR is on or off, I still have 240v AC on the two prongs on my plug going to the heating element. I get this voltage even if I remove any power to pins 3 and 4.

Thoughts? Any other things I can do to troubleshoot?

You can not test the SSR with a multimeter because SSR is a semiconductor device that has a leak current.. Please see the following link
