I heat primarily with wood, and am using this product to monitor my wood stove's temperature--locally during the day, and remotely during overnight burns. I have the remote receiver next to my bed so when I wake up in the middle of the night, I can glance over and can see the status of the fire. Added bonuses are (a)the alarm that will warn me if the stove may be nearing an over-firing situation, and (b)the ability to read the display of the wall-mounted main unit as I'm on the sofa or walking by,rather than getting up to lean over the stove to read the surface thermometers.
